An Angel Said It ...’Tis The Season To Meet The Savior! Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them,“Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you ... a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:8-11 Something happens to everyone who meets the Savior. Why? Because an encounter with Jesus Christ is an encounter with the living God! Consider these examples. Shepherds
After their encounter with the infant Jesus, the simple shepherds who had been tending their sheep in Bethlehem’s fields returned to their jobs, their homes and their communities “glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen” (Lk. 2:20). I am sure they told everyone they met that they had seen the “Savior, who is Christ the Lord” (Lk. 2:11,18). Wise Men
The Magi, those astronomers from the east, “fell down and worshiped Him” when they encountered the Christ child. Then they “presented gifts to Him: gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh - gifts worthy of a king” (Mt. 2:11). The opportunity to encounter the King of kings led these wise men to travel a great distance, give great gifts, “rejoice with exceedingly great joy,” and return home with the great news that the Savior had come. They had encountered the fulfillment of prophecy (Mt. 2:10). Simeon
When Simeon encountered the Christ child in the temple he knew that he had met the One who would bring “peace ... salvation ... light ... glory” to the world (Lk. 2:29-32). He, too, saw in Jesus the fulfillment of prophecy. Anna
And when an aged prophetess named Anna encountered Christ in the temple she was led instantly to give thanks to God and to speak of Him to all those who were looking for redemption in Jerusalem (Lk. 2:38). Why? Because she knew she had seen the Savior. You
