THE CHRISTMAS STARUnder What Sign Were You Born?“Where is the One who has been born King of the Jews? We saw His star in the east, and have come to worship Him.” Matthew 2:2 It was a cold December morning. Next to me on the commuter train sat a young man, reading his horoscope in morning paper. He liked what it said, because he carefully tore out the section entitled “Scorpio.” Then he said, “Want to read your horoscope? Under what sign were you born?” “That won’t be necessary,” I replied. “My life is under the influence of the best star of all – the star of Bethlehem.” He looked at me in amazement as I continued: “You do know the story of the Wise Men from the East, don’t you? The Bible says this about them: “When they saw the star, they were overjoyed” (Mt. 2:10 NIV). When my life came under the influence of this star – that is, when I came to know Jesus Christ as my Savior – He took my life under His control. I don’t need another horoscope. The young man stiffened up and exclaimed, “You mean you still believe in God! This is the twenty-first century!” I responded, “You’re living in the twenty-first century too, aren’t you? And you’re trusting in a horoscope column in a newspaper! And at a time when man is capable of destroying the whole earth in a few seconds! Who is giving you any guarantee that you’ll be alive tomorrow? How do you expect to stand before God if you have not accepted His offer of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ?” He gave me a bewildered look. I concluded: “If I were you, I’d see to it that my life came under the influence of the Star of Bethlehem. You’re safe there no matter what happens, because it points you straight to Jesus Christ, who died for you and wants to be your Savior and Lord.”
