The Incomparable Christ
Twenty centuries ago a man was born who was conceived contrary to the laws of life and who died in contradiction to the laws of death. He had no wealth or social prestige. As a newborn He made a king tremble; as a boy He confounded doctors and professors, and as an adult He controlled nature.
A Unique Man
He walked on the surface of a turbulent sea as if it were firm, then He calmed it. He owned no fields of grain nor fisheries, yet he served a meal for 5,000 and had bread and fish left over. He healed multitudes without medicines and without cost. He never practiced psychiatry, but He healed more troubled hearts than all the doctors of all time.
He wrote no book, yet there is no library adequate to hold the volumes that have been written about Him. Though He founded no university, all centers of learning together do not have as many disciples or students as this Man. He never composed a song, but even today He continues to be the theme for more songs than all the compositions of all of history on any other theme.
Invincible
He never commanded an army, recruited a soldier or fired a weapon. Yet, no leader ever led more volunteers who, under His orders and without arms, have subdued many millions of rebels.
Few mourned His death, but a black shroud covered the sun. Although men are not troubled by their own sins, the foundations of the earth quaked under the weight of human sin that burdened this singular Man. All nature honored Him; only sinners despised Him. Decomposition could not take over His body. The earth stained with His blood could not claim His bones.
Unforgettable
The great names of history, proud statesmen, arrive, pass on and disappear. Scientists and philosophers pass over the stage of life and pass on. But the name of this Man grows and exerts ever greater influence. Nearly 2,000 years have passed since His death, yet He lives on. Neither religious leaders nor the power of the Roman Empire were able to destroy Him, nor could the grave keep Him.
He sits preeminently over the highest pinnacle of earthly history and of heavenly glory, exalted by God, revered by angels, worshiped by saints and feared by demons. This is the living, personal Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Was it simply human blood that was shed at Mount Calvary for the redemption of sinners? Who in his right mind could silence the exclamation made by Thomas, “My Lord and my God!” (Jn. 20:28 ESV)?
Let the reader consider a few declarations of the Bible with which God has blessed thousands who recognize how incomparable – how utterly unique – is the Christ, confessing themselves sinners in need of salvation:
- “God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom. 5:8). How great is His love!
- “God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life” (Jn. 3:16).
- “Jesus said … ‘I am the bread of life, whoever comes to Me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in Me shall never thirst” (6:35). There is eternal satisfaction to everyone who comes and believes!
- “To all who receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God” (1:12-13).
You only need to receive Him, dear friend. Will you do it now? We can tell you how..
