It’s Cool To Wait! While the world would like us to think that sexual purity is a thing of the past, and that all young people are sexually active, a recent poll reported that well over 50% of high school students disagree – and that number is rising. And an increasing number of sex education programs are beginning to promote abstinence as the most foolproof way to eliminate unwanted pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases, guilt and all the psychological problems resulting from sexual sin. Ever heard of True Love Waits? Instead of continuing to believe that kids can’t control themselves, this eight year-old, biblically-based movement challenges young people to pledge to remain sexually pure until marriage. And guess what – by God’s grace it’s working! To date, over two million young people have signed covenant cards that say: “Believing that true love waits, I make a commitment to God, myself, my family, my friends, my future mate, and my future children to be sexually abstinent from this day until the day I enter a biblical marriage relationship.” And these pledges are backed up with lots of support. True Love Waits began as a grass roots effort among Baptist youth groups. Today it is supported by over 100 denominations, youth ministries, crisis pregnancy centers, health organizations and other groups that promote abstinence and sexual purity. The testimonies of students committed to sexual purity demonstrate the power of peer support. For years Satan used peer pressure to make sexual purity very unpopular. Now Christian young people are encouraging biblical purity with words like this: “You’re not alone.
