Somthing God Has Done
Have you ever said or done somethin g that you wanted to take back or undo? For myself, I think the number of times is beyond what I can count, many retained in my memory with sorrow. We would like those things to be forgotten and then go on with life as if we had never failed in those ways. Of course, in the world this is practically impossible, for there always seems to be someone or something to remind us about our wrongs.
However, in God’s incredible working, He has made it possible for us to go on in our relationship with Him as if the wrongs we have done had never happened. This is because those things – even all our sin and sins – have been fully dealt with by the Lord Jesus on the cross of Calvary and because He was raised from the dead on the third day (Acts 4:24-25). The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ have taken all who have faith in Him from a realm of overwhelming judgment to a place of untold blessing, for we are now seen in the perfections of God’s Son (2 Cor. 5:21). He never sinned – never spoke a wrong word or did a wrong thing (1 Pet. 2:21-22). Because of this, our standing as believers before God is as if we have never sinned! Amazing!
In short, this is “justification.” The Feature articles this month go into more detail about this topic. Justification is one of many blessings which far exceed our earthly understanding – being able now to grasp it in part through the help of the Holy Spirit, who dwells in all believers (1 Cor. 6:19). Only when with Him will we understand the things of God more fully (13:12).
Forever we stand in the blessing of the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ. In heaven we will sing His praises eternally (Ps. 89:1). How good it would be for us to do so even here, day-by-day, delighting in what God has revealed in His Word. In doing so, we will be kept from the many things and ideas which our adversary seeks to use to bring dishonor upon the Lord’s name. We may well be prevented from saying or doing that which we should not, instead saying and doing what we should. When this is the case, the character of the Lord Jesus will be seen through us (Col. 2:6; 2 Th. 1:12) – to His glory! Oh, may it be so.
