Five Things That You Need To Know
You may or may not know anything about the Bible or theology, but to be eternally saved it is essential that you know the following:
1. You Need To Know That You Are A Sinner In The Eyes Of God.
The Bible says: “None is righteous, no, not one” (Rom. 3:10 ESV). If it’s true that there is none righteous, then you are neither righteous nor good, you are a sinner.
“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned – every one – to his own way” (Isa. 53:6). “All” includes you. There are only two ways: your own and God’s. If you are not on God’s way then you are on your own way, meaning you have gone astray and are a sinner in God’s eyes.
2. You Need To Know That Christ Bore Your Sin.
The Bible says. “The LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all” (v.6). God had to judge your sin in order to be able to offer you salvation. Atonement, a sacrifice to take away guilt, had to be made. Jesus Christ made that sacrifice when He bore your sins in His own body on the cross and died in your place (1 Pet. 2:24, 3:18).
3. You Need To Know That You Cannot Save Yourself.
“By grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing” (Eph. 2:8), the Bible says “not your own doing” since no one can be his own savior. The fact that Christ died at Calvary for you is clear and definite proof that you cannot save yourself.
4. You Need To Know That Jesus Christ – And He Alone – Can Save You.
“You shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins” (Mt. 1:21), promised the angel that announced the birth of Jesus.
“There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). “Jesus said … ‘I am the way … No one comes to the Father except through Me’” (Jn. 14:6). The Bible plainly states that the Lord Jesus Christ – and Him only –can save you. There is no one else who can!
5. You Need To Receive Christ As Your Personal Savior.
You could have lots of food, but it would never save you from starving to death if you didn’t eat any of it. If you were dying of thirst, you would have to drink the water offered to you. Or if a venomous snake bite you and you were dying from its poison, you would need to take the anti-venom.
Here is what God offers for what you need: “To all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God” (1:12).
How can you become a child of God? Receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your own personal Savior.
