Study God’s Word

Sometimes Christian pastors and teachers give messages about a particular subject or person as found in Scripture. Other times they may present points in a particular book of the Bible in an organized manner, either as an overview or a detailed presentation of a selected passage.

As we call this to mind, we may recognize that we can study the Bible in the same ways during our quiet times with the Lord, individually or with our families (Acts 8:32; Dt. 6:5-9). It is so important to read and study God’s Word, meditate on it and then share what we have accurately learned (2 Tim. 2:15). God’s Word is “living and powerful” (Heb. 4:12 NKJV), and being in its pages and doing what it says will result in much blessing for believers today (Rev. 1:3).

Consider what God has said about the study of His Word:

  • “The Holy Scriptures … are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Tim. 3:15-17).
  • “You shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” (Josh. 1:8).
  • “The Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth” (Jn. 16:13).
  • “Whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope” (Rom. 15:4).
  • “Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; for I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts” (Jer. 15:16).
  • “Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you” (1 Tim. 4:16).

Let us open His Word, read and study it. May we do so diligently, for His glory and our benefit.
