One of the most persistent questions Christians ask is:
“How can I know God’s will for me in this situation?”
Whether it’s about a job, marriage, moving, or any life choice, the question is inevitable. The answer lies in seeking God’s will—not our own.
God’s will will never contradict His Word. If what you want to do conflicts with Scripture, it’s not His will.
For example, the Bible condemns fornication over 30 times. Jesus teaches that even lust is adultery in the heart (Matthew 5:28). No matter how convincing a desire may be, it cannot override God’s clear commands.
Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us:
“Lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
God’s Word is a lamp and a light guiding us through life (Psalm 119:105). Walk only where His light shines.
The closer you are to God, the easier it is to know His will. Just like family members know each other’s thoughts and needs, we can discern God’s will through intimacy with Him.
David writes:
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.” (Psalm 32:8)
Being humble and obedient opens the way for God’s guidance. Like Jesus, who said:
“Not My will, but Yours, be done” (Luke 22:42)
When you’re close enough to God to let His eye guide you, you will find no trouble knowing or accepting His will.
Knowing God’s will and having the mind of Christ are one and the same. Jesus came to do God’s will perfectly. We are called to follow His example.
Paul writes:
“Who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:16)
Ask yourself:
When you answer honestly, these questions will help you discern God’s will clearly.
Do you want to know God’s will or just justify your own desires? God may allow us to have what we want but at a cost—a shallow spiritual life.
Seek Him in Scripture, draw close to Him in intimacy, and let Christ’s mind be yours. God does not keep us guessing; He promises to guide those who seek Him sincerely.
