“Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift”
(2 Corinthians 9:15 NKJV)
During this holiday season,
it is the custom in many lands to give gifts.
And while it is always anticipated as a joyous occasion,
the actual giving and receiving of gifts is more often a time of mixed emotions, with the anticipation and excitement inevitably being dampened by disappointment.
Very often, the wrapping paper ends up being far more attractive than the actual gift inside.
And that’s how it is with so much in our lives.
The decorative wrapping brings forth dreams of good things to come, only to be shattered by the reality of a sweater that doesn’t fit or a tie that matches nothing else in our wardrobe.
Most of us realize that even with our best intentions,
that “perfect gift” usually ends up unused in a drawer somewhere because “it just wasn’t quite right.”
However, this is never the case with the gift of God.
His gift is far greater than the simple wrapping of “swaddling clothes” it came in.
In fact, God’s gift is so great, that Paul found himself at a loss for words
when he wanted to say thanks for it, and could only refer to it as:
“Indescribable.” Although the wrapping was humble, the gift itself is glorious beyond words!
Our gifts are only appropriate once in a while,
but the gift of God is well-suited to man’s every need—all the time.
Sometimes the gifts we give don’t fit,
but His gift is a perfect fit for everyone—every time.
If our gifts wear out or break as soon as the warranty is up,
His is the only gift that comes with an eternal life-time warranty.
When we receive gifts,
we often try to guess what’s inside.
Almost always, we imagine surprises far greater than they really are.
However, this can never be so with the gift of God,
because His gift is Jesus Christ Himself,
perfect in every way.
Won’t you receive God’s gift today,
and discover His indescribable richness?
“The wages of sin is death,
but the gift of God is eternal life
in Christ Jesus our Lord”
(Romans 6:23)
