“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season,
whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.”
— Psalm 1:1-3
I have hope for the worst man, as long as he will read his Bible.
I fear for the best man, if he neglects it. In these perilous days, the Word of God is our only safeguard.
Two men give wise counsel for Bible study:
Mr. Moody said:
“For years I made a rule to read only books that help me understand the Bible.
I am more a slave to the Bible than to strong drink, and it does me great good.
Every Christian should have a good Bible—don’t fear marking it!
The more I read, the more precious it becomes, always a new book to me.”
How to study:
Another approach:
“Alternate reading a chapter from the Old Testament, then the New Testament, moving forward.
Repeat cycles, increasing your love and knowledge of God’s Word.”
Bible reading is spiritual nourishment:
“More than your necessary food” (Job 23:12).
Many young Christians fall away for lack of it. Forgiveness is wonderful, but it is not food; you need spiritual strength to stand.
Jesus said, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35)
Feeding daily on God’s Word will satisfy your soul richly (Psalm 63:5). Earthly pleasures won’t compare.
Be vigilant:
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
